The fact that we keep going back to Twitter, despite its flakiness is testament to just how good it is when it is up!

I think people migrate where their socnet hive resides. Twitter is a good place to blurt. Jaiku is a better place to converse. Horses for courses. Both have their strengths and purposes.
@topgold "Both have their strengths and purposes."
I agree with that. They're similar services but it's not a one or the other choice for me. Conversations, discussions and debates go on at Jaiku with the threaded - and longer - replies, and that can be great sometimes.
On the other hand, the extra restrictions on Twitter make it a better place for a quick browse. It's easier to keep track of with minimal interaction (I tend to just leave the Firefox sidebar open in work, for instance).
Personally, I prefer Twitter. But I like them both just fine.
@TomRaftery twitter's not for me anymore. I'm not really interested in the A-List so jaiku and the sizeable number of Irish microbloggers who reside here is all the social network I need.
@topgold - I think you are absolutely correct on the socnet comment - most of my tech connections hang out on Twitter so I use it more than Jaiku nd as @micflan said, the restrictions make it easier to dip in and out of.
@sxoop - I'm not really interested in the A-List either and most of the people I converse with on Twitter would probably not consider themselves A-List. Having said that, it may be more important for you, who is selling a product, to be networking with A-Listers on whatever platform, to maintain buzz around pixenate
@conoro - it was the 'royal we', of course ;-)
@lexia - I hope not, I had no intention of starting a turf war
Personally I'm a little perplexed by the bi-textuals who use both twitter and jaiku. It may not be cool to say so but feck it - jaiku is just so fucking superior to twitter in every way that I find it mind-boggling that someone who's moved from twitter to jaiku could ever revert back to using twitter. I've tried conversing on twitter - it's kind of like trying to follow trackbacks (remember them ?). I like conversation to flow smoothly and easily , trackbacks and twitter @'s just don't cut it.
Totally with you on that Walter but there is the odd interesting snippet on Twitter (maybe two per day) so I scan quickly twice a day and have twittermail send me any @conoro messages. Still people using LouderTweets too so I have to monitor that. I feed my Jaikuus into Twitter so that the twits are constantly reminded to move to Jaiku :-) Pretty much mirrors my use of Facebook.
Honestly, I think Twitter is the better - purer maybe - microblogging platform. Jaiku is like microblogging meets chatroom/web-forum, and I don't always want or have the time to be following that.
And at other times the extra conversation and threads are exactly what I want.
Like I said, they're both good services. I see no reason to pick and choose.
If you grew up texting one-to-one, you probably like Twitter. If you grew up with USENET, you probably feel more comfortable with Jaiku. But if all of your friends are on Pownce, that's probably the one for you.
@sxoop I prefer Jaiku but I guess I'm using Twitter more conversationally than is typical - and for that you need friends. Most of mine are over there, and non of them can sign up here at the moment. I'd love to be using a Jai channel for my Second Life event on Sat - but without new signups it can't happen.
Twitter = Star Trek: DS9 (or some other spin-off noone cares about) Jaiku = Star Wars : ESB . Intertwining two long-fought internet turf-wars. Ahhhhh. my work here is done ;-)
@sxoop - s'all set to go now I'm afraid - thanx for the offer though. I'm itching to try out Jai casts in Second Life. ESB? You REALLY love it over here huh :)

When you say "we" Tom? I stick here and only reply to the odd comment on Twitter.

Images of the Star Trek vs Star Wars turf war is ringing in my ears (not that I was part of one, mind) ... Jaiku and Twitter serve different purposes

Well I don't text much, never really used USENET and none my 'real life' friends use the Internet even a fraction as much as I do.
Maybe that's why I like them both :)
